Leroy Neiman (1921-2012) was an impressionist artist from Saint-Paul, Minnesota. He was also an illustrator, a photographer, and a cartoonist. His techniques were inspired by abstract expressionist artist Willem de Kooning’s artworks combined with the art of illustration and elements of Impressionism and Expressionism.

His talent was used during his services in World War II, for which he was the army cook. He also painted sets for the Red Cross. Since the 1960s, Neiman had been named among the best American artists. He was commissioned to do works for galleries such as: Hammer Galleries in New York ad Franklin Bowles Gallery in San Francisco. He illustrated for major magazines such as Sports Illustrated and Harper’s magazine. He was commissioned to make murals for major events including the Olympics (i.e. Montreal 1976 and Los Angeles 1984), as well as the Super Bowl events of 1978 and 1979. Aside from his artworks, Leroy Neiman taught figure drawing and fashion illustration at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).

Throughout his artistic career, Neiman donated his artworks to various charitable organizations. He created two organizations: the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies (1995) and the Arts Horizons LeRoy Neiman Art Center (2008) to help children have access to Art classes and afters chool activities. In 2009, Neiman was awarded Honorary Professorship of the Arts at Columbia University and the Order of Lincoln at the Lincoln Bicentennial Convocation .
